These powerful ships had a designed crew of around 500, and they were armed with 30 36Pounder guns in the lowerdeck, 32 24Pounder guns in the upperdeck, 18 12Pounder guns in the quarterdeck.

The Tonnant class was a group of eight 80-gun third rates, designed for French Navy by JacquesNol San. These powerful ships of the line had a designed crew of around 780, and they were armed with 30 32Pounder guns in the lowerdeck, 30 24Pounder guns in the upperdeck, 18 24Pounder guns in the quarterdeck, 2 12Pounder guns in the forecastle.

HMS Malta 1800/HMS Tonnant 1798
The Tonnant class ship HMS Malta previously served with the French Navy as the Guillaume Tell, until she was captured in the Mediterranean Sea by the British Navy during the blockade of Malta. As Guillaume Tell, she took part in the Battle of the Nile, becoming one of only two French ships to escape the destruction of the fleet, and took refuge at Malta, where was captured. After her capture, she sailed in the British Navy for 40 years, with missions in the Channel, the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.
